About Organisation
TIndia Foundation for the Arts (IFA) is an independent, not-for-profit organisation working across India to support research, practice and education in the arts and culture. Since 1995, IFA has funded projects that encourage critical thinking, experimentation and new approaches to artistic and cultural practice. Its Arts Education programme works to strengthen the role of arts in learning and create meaningful connections between schools, students, artists and communities. Through initiatives such as Kali Kalisu, IFA supports schools in developing educational approaches that use local arts, cultural knowledge and creative practices to make classroom learning more engaging, relevant and inclusive.
About the Grant
The Kali Kalisu Arts Education programme invites proposals from government-aided and nonprofit schools in non-metropolitan areas of India for arts-integrated education projects. Selected projects can receive grants of up to ₹4 lakh for initiatives lasting between one and one-and-a-half years. Supported projects may integrate local art forms and cultural practices into classroom teaching, connect curriculum subjects with students’ lived experiences and involve local artists or community resources. The programme aims to encourage curiosity, creativity and meaningful learning by using arts as an integral part of education rather than treating them as an additional extracurricular activity.
Who can Apply?
Eligible applicants are government-aided or nonprofit schools located in non-metropolitan areas of India. Schools must generally be registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 or the Indian Trust Act, 1882 and should have existed for at least three years. Applicants must maintain audited accounts for at least two years and possess a valid PAN. Proposed projects should demonstrate meaningful integration of arts and culture into teaching and learning. Schools are encouraged to work with local artists, cultural practitioners and community resources and should be able to explain their educational context, objectives, methodology, work plan and expected outcomes.
How to Apply?
Interested schools should first discuss their project idea with IFA and prepare a detailed proposal addressing the school’s mission, student context, project objectives, methodology, resource persons, implementation plan, evaluation framework and expected outcomes. A detailed budget and supporting organisational documents must also be prepared.
