About Organisation

The International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) is an internationally recognized research organization committed to transforming agriculture in dryland regions. Headquartered in India, ICRISAT focuses on improving the livelihoods of 2.1 billion people residing in the semi-arid tropics of Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa. These regions face pressing challenges such as food insecurity, malnutrition, poverty, and environmental stress due to climate variability and land degradation.
ICRISAT engages in cutting-edge agricultural research aimed at making farming systems more resilient, sustainable, and inclusive. Its core research themes include crop improvement, soil health, climate-smart agriculture, and market-led innovations. The organization collaborates with global partners, academic institutions, and local communities to develop context-specific solutions that address the needs of smallholder farmers. With a strong emphasis on capacity building and knowledge transfer, ICRISAT also supports future agricultural leaders and researchers by offering programs that integrate academic learning with real-world experience. Its efforts are geared toward enhancing productivity, ensuring environmental sustainability, and contributing to global goals such as Zero Hunger and Climate Action.

About the Grant

The ICRISAT Study-cum-Research Fellowship Program offers a unique opportunity for students and early-career professionals to engage in research and practical learning within the dynamic field of dryland agriculture. The program is designed to support individuals at various academic levels—ranging from undergraduate to doctoral studies—as well as recent graduates seeking to enhance their professional skill set.
Participants can choose from four categories based on their academic background and career aspirations:

  • Internship Program (6 weeks to 3 months)

  • Master’s Research Program (3 to 6 months)

  • Doctoral Research Program (6 months to 3 years)

  • Research Fellow (6 to 18 months)

Fellows are expected to work on projects aligned with ICRISAT’s ongoing research and contribute to solutions in agriculture, food systems, and sustainability. The fellowship fosters practical experience, academic enrichment, and exposure to interdisciplinary research, under the guidance of ICRISAT scientists. This program is ideal for students fulfilling academic requirements through field-based or lab-based research, as well as graduates aiming to gain hands-on experience to boost their employability or prepare for advanced studies.
