About Organisation
The International Brain Research Organization (IBRO) is a global organisation supporting neuroscience research, education and collaboration. Through regional and international programmes, IBRO works to strengthen neuroscience capacity and connect researchers and communities around the world. The Dana Foundation supports initiatives that increase public understanding of brain science and its relevance to everyday life. Together, IBRO and the Dana Foundation support Brain Awareness Week activities that bring neuroscience closer to communities through educational and public engagement programmes. The grants encourage researchers and outreach organisers to communicate brain science in accessible, creative and culturally relevant ways, particularly in regions and communities that have been historically underrepresented.
About the Grant
The IBRO/Dana Brain Awareness Week Grants 2027 provide up to US$1,250 for activities designed to improve public awareness and understanding of brain science. Supported initiatives may include outreach activities for schools, community events, advocacy activities and programmes aimed at policymakers or the media. Brain Awareness Week offers applicants an opportunity to connect neuroscience with everyday life and communicate research in accessible formats. IBRO particularly encourages creative and culturally responsive projects and gives attention to countries and regions that have been underrepresented in previous campaigns. The programme supports outreach rather than conventional laboratory research.
Who can Apply?
The grant is intended for applicants organising Brain Awareness Week outreach and engagement activities. Proposed projects should have a clear public education or awareness objective and communicate neuroscience in an accessible manner. Activities may target schools, community groups, policymakers, media or other audiences. IBRO encourages creative approaches that are culturally appropriate and relevant to local communities. Applicants should demonstrate why their activity is needed, who it will reach, how it will communicate brain science and what outcomes are expected. Projects from underrepresented countries and regions are particularly encouraged under the current funding cycle.
How to Apply?
Applicants should review the official IBRO/Dana Brain Awareness Week Grants 2027 guidelines and prepare a concise description of the planned outreach activity, target audience, objectives, implementation approach and expected impact. The application should explain how the proposed activity advances public understanding of brain science and provide the required project information. Applications are submitted through IBRO’s online grant application platform before the stated deadline.
