About Organisation
The Technology Development Board (TDB), operating under India’s Department of Science and Technology, supports the development and commercialization of indigenous technologies. For the India-Finland Joint Innovation Call 2026, TDB is implementing the programme on behalf of DST in partnership with Business Finland. The initiative promotes collaborative innovation between Indian and Finnish companies and research organizations. It focuses on commercially relevant research and development that can lead to new products, processes and improved services. The programme supports international technology partnerships and encourages participating organisations to combine technical capabilities, research expertise and market opportunities for innovative solutions.
About the Grant
The India-Finland Joint Innovation Call 2026 supports collaborative R&D projects between eligible Indian and Finnish partners. Priority areas include sustainable energy, renewable energy, hydrogen technologies, smart cities, waste management, waste-to-energy, electric vehicles, carbon capture, energy storage, advanced digital technologies, artificial intelligence, 5G/6G, MEMS and sensors. Projects can run for a maximum of 24 months, with up to six projects expected to receive support. Successful proposals should demonstrate innovation, market potential, commercialization prospects and strong joint project-management capacity. Both Indian and Finnish partners must submit applications to their respective national funding agencies.
Who can Apply?
Eligible Indian applicants must be commercial, for-profit companies registered under the Indian Companies Act 1956 or 2013, operating and headquartered in India. At least 51% of the lead company must be owned by Indian citizens. Applicants must demonstrate appropriate R&D expertise, technical capability and team capacity. LLPs, sole proprietors, one-person companies and partnership firms are not eligible. Companies headquartered or owned outside India, including their subsidiaries in India, are also excluded from DST support. Finnish partners may include companies of different sizes and eligible research organisations meeting Business Finland requirements.
How to Apply?
Indian applicants must submit their proposal through the Technology Development Board website, together with the required Joint Application Form and nationally required documents. Finnish partners must apply separately through Business Finland’s online submission system. The joint application must clearly describe each partner’s work, intellectual-property arrangements and commercialization plans. Both sides must submit their respective applications for the proposal to be considered. A signed Consortium Agreement or MoU covering relevant intellectual-property matters must also be attached.
