About Organisation

The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation is a prestigious German organization that promotes academic exchange and research collaboration between outstanding scientists and scholars from around the world and Germany. It is committed to fostering global scientific progress and international understanding, irrespective of discipline or nationality. The foundation supports fellows throughout their lives, offering long-term professional and personal engagement opportunities. Through its extensive global network of over 30,000 alumni known as “Humboldtians,” it facilitates ongoing academic partnerships and cultural dialogue. As an intermediary in Germany’s international cultural and educational policy, the foundation plays a vital role in strengthening Germany as a research destination. By providing fellowships, awards, and various forms of support, it enables researchers from abroad to conduct their self-chosen projects with German hosts, and equally supports German researchers in pursuing academic work abroad.

About the Grant

The Georg Forster Research Fellowship, offered by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, is designed to support postdoctoral and experienced researchers from developing and emerging countries across all academic fields. The fellowship promotes research projects that contribute meaningfully to the sustainable development of the researcher’s region of origin. With a strong emphasis on diversity, gender equality, and inclusion, the program especially encourages applications from female scientists and scholars from Least Developed Countries. It supports both early-career and established researchers through generous funding, flexible research stays, and additional benefits such as family allowances, language training, and alumni support. This fellowship aligns with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 5 (gender equality), and provides a platform for long-term academic collaboration in Germany.
