About Organisation
EKOenergy is an international, non-profit ecolabel for renewable electricity and gas, supporting sustainability and climate action globally. The organization promotes clean energy and ensures that its certified energy meets strict environmental and sustainability criteria. EKOenergy not only advocates for renewable energy use but also reinvests a portion of its revenue into renewable energy projects in underserved regions. Through its Climate Fund, EKOenergy has financed over 122 projects with nearly €4 million, helping communities in low- and middle-income countries gain access to clean energy. The fund primarily supports solar and wind energy initiatives, contributing to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). EKOenergy works closely with NGOs and community organizations to ensure projects have a lasting, positive impact. Their funding model is designed to enhance energy access, mitigate climate change, and foster economic and social development. The organization follows strict environmental and ethical guidelines, ensuring that funded projects do not harm ecosystems or displace communities. EKOenergy’s work extends beyond funding; they also engage in advocacy and awareness campaigns to promote renewable energy adoption at local, national, and international levels, reinforcing their commitment to a greener and more sustainable future.
About the Grant
The EKOenergy Climate Fund provides financial support for renewable electricity projects in low- and middle-income countries, aiming to create sustainable environmental and social impact. The fund prioritizes initiatives that align with EKOenergy’s mission of promoting renewable energy and tackling energy poverty. The grant is primarily intended for short-term projects lasting between 6 to 18 months, with first-time partners eligible for a maximum funding of €40,000. Organizations that have previously received funding may qualify for higher amounts. The funding is mainly allocated to the construction of solar PV or wind energy installations, along with essential technical assets like batteries and supporting infrastructure. Projects must demonstrate clear climate benefits, enhance community engagement, and promote renewable energy awareness among stakeholders. While research projects, general co-funding, carbon credit-based initiatives, and individual applications are ineligible, the fund actively seeks proposals that ensure sustainable, long-term benefits. EKOenergy’s Climate Fund is dedicated to empowering communities, fostering resilience, and advancing renewable energy access in underprivileged regions. By supporting these projects, the fund contributes to improving education, healthcare, food security, and women’s economic empowerment, aligning with global sustainability goals.
Who can Apply?
The EKOenergy Climate Fund invites applications primarily from NGOs, but also considers other non-profit organizations committed to environmental and social impact. Eligible applicants must have a strong track record in project implementation and demonstrate organizational capacity to complete proposed initiatives successfully. Projects must offer tangible climate and environmental benefits without harming sensitive ecosystems or displacing residents. Ethical principles, such as human rights protection, fair labor practices, and non-discriminatory participant selection, are mandatory. Funding is strictly allocated for the construction of renewable energy installations and supporting technical infrastructure, excluding research-focused activities, unrestricted co-funding, and event-based projects. Applicants must provide a comprehensive project plan detailing budgets, exit strategies, and community engagement strategies. Additionally, proposals should advocate for renewable energy at various levels, contributing to broader awareness and policy influence. The selection process prioritizes projects that address multiple community needs, such as access to education, healthcare, food security, and economic justice.
