About the Grant
The Chevening Gurukul Fellowship for Leadership and Excellence is the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office’s flagship fellowship for India, with a legacy of over two decades. Hosted by the University of Oxford’s Department of Politics and International Relations, this 12-week residential programme is designed for mid-career professionals with exceptional leadership potential. The fellowship aims to equip participants with the knowledge, skills, and global outlook required to address the challenges of an interconnected world. The curriculum integrates academic learning, policy relevance, and personal development through lectures, seminars, and practical engagements. Fellows explore themes such as global economic integration, the impact of science and technology, international governance, social challenges, and the politics surrounding globalisation. The programme also includes UK site visits, cultural immersion, and the opportunity to design and present a public policy plan. By fostering professional networks and enhancing leadership capabilities, the fellowship prepares participants to take on roles that can influence policy, drive social change, and strengthen India’s position on the global stage.
Who can Apply?
The fellowship is open to Indian citizens currently residing in India who commit to returning after the programme. Applicants must hold a postgraduate qualification or possess equivalent professional training or work experience in a relevant area, along with a minimum of ten years’ work experience. Candidates should be mid-career professionals with strong leadership potential across diverse sectors, such as government, private industry, media, or civil society. Proficiency in English is essential, as it will be assessed during the application and interview process. Applicants must not hold British or dual-British citizenship. Additionally, they must not be employees, former employees, or close relatives of employees of His Majesty’s Government or associated bodies within the last two years, including the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, British Embassies or High Commissions, the British Council, or sponsoring UK universities. Candidates must also be willing to adhere to all programme guidelines, requirements, and expectations.

Grant Amount
