About Organisation
The Global Environment Facility Small Grants Programme is implemented by the United Nations Development Programme and supports locally led environmental and community-development initiatives. In Ghana, the programme’s ICCA-GSI Phase II call focuses on territories and areas conserved by Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities. The initiative aims to strengthen biodiversity conservation, sustainable livelihoods and climate resilience while supporting communities in managing natural resources. Funding is available for local NGOs, civil society organisations, community-based organisations and eligible social enterprises working on environmental and sustainable-development challenges in Ghana.
About the Grant
The 2026 ICCA-GSI Phase II call provides grants of up to US$50,000 for innovative community-led initiatives in Ghana. Supported areas include conservation of threatened ecosystems and species, sustainable agriculture and fisheries, food security, low-carbon energy access, chemicals and waste management, and sustainable urban solutions. The programme is designed to connect biodiversity conservation with sustainable livelihoods and climate resilience. The current call is open from September 16 through October 3, 2026, and proposals must be submitted electronically using the required programme templates.
Who can Apply?
Eligible applicants include local NGOs and nonprofit organisations operating in Ghana, civil society organisations, community-based groups and eligible social enterprise organisations recognised by the relevant Ghanaian authorities. Organisations must have the required registration or recognition documentation and operate within Ghana. Proposed projects should demonstrate community participation and address one or more of the programme’s environmental and sustainable-development priorities. Applicants should clearly describe the environmental challenge, target communities, planned activities, expected results and contribution to biodiversity conservation, sustainable livelihoods or climate resilience.
How to Apply?
Applicants should review the official UNDP Ghana call and prepare their proposal using the relevant application template. Proposals should describe the environmental challenge, communities involved, activities, expected results and sustainability benefits. Completed applications and required documents must be submitted electronically to the designated UNDP Ghana email address before the deadline. A proposal workshop was also scheduled for September 22, 2026.
