About Organisation

The East-West Center (EWC), established by the U.S. Congress in 1960, fosters stronger relations and mutual understanding among the people and nations of the United States, Asia, and the Pacific through cooperative study, research, and dialogue. Based in Honolulu, Hawai‘i, the Center serves as a hub for innovation, education, and collaboration, connecting leaders, scholars, policymakers, and professionals across the region. EWC’s programs emphasize shared learning and address critical challenges related to governance, environment, security, and economic growth. Through its diverse initiatives, including academic exchanges, leadership programs, and policy dialogues, the East-West Center aims to strengthen peace, prosperity, and sustainable development across the Indo-Pacific region. Its alumni network includes thousands of professionals committed to advancing intercultural understanding and regional cooperation.

About the Grant

The Asia Pacific Leadership Program (APLP), launched in 2000, is the East-West Center’s flagship leadership initiative designed for mid-career professionals in the Indo-Pacific region. The program cultivates strategic, adaptive, and values-based leadership through experiential learning, intercultural dialogue, and systems thinking. The 2026 APLP focuses on economic security through the lens of global and geoeconomic trends—examining interconnections among energy, food, health, and AI-driven systems. Fellows participate in a virtual pre-residency (June 1–23), a residential program in Hawai‘i (June 24–July 31), and a post-residency virtual reflection (August 1–September 2). The immersive residency combines fieldwork, collaborative problem-solving, and leadership labs, creating a unique environment for learning and innovation. Participants gain practical insights into complex challenges and build a lifelong network of regional changemakers and thought leaders.

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) from a recognized institution and have at least five years of professional work experience.
