About Organisation
Breakthrough T1D is dedicated to advancing innovative research aimed at improving the lives of individuals with type 1 diabetes (T1D). The organization focuses on developing beta cell replacement therapies to restore glycemic control, reduce insulin dependence, and enhance overall quality of life for individuals with T1D. By addressing critical scientific and technical challenges, such as cell engraftment, survival, and immune protection, Breakthrough T1D fosters groundbreaking solutions to accelerate the availability of effective cell-based treatments. It encourages collaboration across academic institutions, for-profit entities, and research facilities, emphasizing diversity and inclusion among applicants and awardees.
About the Grant
This funding opportunity supports innovative research to enhance the survival and engraftment of insulin-producing cells transplanted at extrahepatic sites for T1D therapy. Proposals should address challenges such as inflammation, hypoxia, and vascularization to improve cell function and integration. Projects advancing technologies into late preclinical or early clinical development are prioritized. The program promotes innovative strategies that improve glycemic control and beta cell functionality, focusing on addressing barriers in alternative implantation sites.
