Call for Grant Applications – ADB-IEA Innovative Policy Research Award 2025
Application Deadline:
31 December 2024
About Organisation
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is dedicated to fostering a prosperous, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable Asia and the Pacific, while actively working to eliminate extreme poverty in the region. Despite significant progress, the region still struggles with high levels of poverty, with 263 million people living on less than $1.90 per day and 1.1 billion living on less than $3.20 per day. ADB focuses on addressing the region’s development challenges through innovative solutions and impactful policies. The bank’s current operational priorities include tackling climate change, promoting digital inclusivity, enhancing regional cooperation, and building fiscal resilience, all with the goal of driving sustainable growth and equitable development.
About the Grant
The ADB-IEA Innovative Policy Research Award is designed to encourage groundbreaking research that applies empirical economics to key development challenges in Asia and the Pacific. The award invites research that supports evidence-based policy solutions, with no restrictions on themes. Priority areas include climate change mitigation, reducing inequality from digital divides, fostering regional cooperation, and enhancing post-pandemic economic resilience. Winning research will help shape ADB’s policy interventions and operations. The top three papers will be presented at the 2025 ADB Annual Meeting, with the winning paper receiving a $7,000 grant. The grant will be shared equally if there are co-authors.
Who can Apply?
Eligible applicants must submit an original economics research paper that addresses a significant development challenge in Asia and the Pacific. The paper must provide evidence for innovative policy solutions, must not be published or under consideration by any peer-reviewed journal, and should have a clear focus on practical applications for ADB’s developing member countries. Researchers from any country may apply, but the policy solutions proposed must be relevant to an ADB developing member. Young researchers, women, and individuals affiliated with universities, think tanks, and academic institutions are especially encouraged to apply. Applicants must also be willing to collaborate with policymakers from ADB’s developing member countries to test and develop their research into actionable solutions.
How to Apply?
Submit your full research paper, including the title, abstract (100 words or less), JEL codes, and full names of the authors. Submissions must be made by email to ADB by the application deadline.
