About Organisation
The IJURR Foundation is dedicated to promoting research in urban and regional studies, with a focus on the connections between social, economic, and political processes. The foundation supports research that critically examines policies, including their unintended consequences, and values a broader understanding of urban and regional issues. Researchers from various disciplines such as sociology, economics, geography, political science, and urban planning are encouraged to apply, with a particular focus on those who consider the broader contexts of their research. The foundation seeks to foster a deep understanding of urban environments, making a significant impact on policy, urban development, and regional studies.
About the Grant
The IJURR Foundation offers writing-up grants to postgraduate research students working within the field of urban and regional studies. The award is meant to support the final stages of research and writing, covering university fees, accommodation, or equipment expenses, but not the full costs of being a student. The grant is awarded based on the specifics of each application, with values ranging between £1,000 and £5,600, although the Trustees may increase the amount in cases of special circumstances or hardship. Applications must demonstrate ongoing registration at a university and appropriate supervisory arrangements for research in urban and regional subjects. The grant aims to help students in the final stages of their PhD work, typically within six months of dissertation submission.
Who can Apply?
The grant is available to postgraduate (Doctorate) research students who are studying urban and regional topics. Applicants must be from low-income or middle-income countries, as classified by the World Bank, with a preference for those who completed their first degrees in their home country or another low or middle-income country. Students should have completed their fieldwork and be in the process of writing up their dissertation, ideally within six months of submission. Applicants must provide evidence of ongoing PhD registration and supervisory arrangements. Those who have previously received an IJURR Foundation studentship are ineligible for the writing-up grant.
How to Apply?
To apply, complete the application form and submit two academic references along with proof of PhD registration. Ensure your department has appropriate supervision for urban and regional studies.
