About the Grant

The Fire Protection Grant 2026-27 provides funding to eligible municipal fire departments across Ontario for firefighter health, safety and operational improvements. Supported priorities include cancer prevention equipment and supplies, personal protective equipment, minor infrastructure improvements, broadband and internet connectivity modernisation, and equipment for responding to lithium-ion battery incidents. These investments are intended to reduce firefighters’ exposure to hazardous contaminants, improve workplace safety and strengthen emergency preparedness. The programme also helps departments respond to emerging risks associated with electric vehicles, battery storage and consumer technologies while modernising local fire service capabilities and protecting firefighters and their communities.

Who can Apply?

The Fire Protection Grant 2026-27 is available to eligible municipalities located in Ontario, Canada. Applicants must operate an established municipal fire department created in accordance with the applicable requirements of the Fire Protection and Prevention Act, 1997 (FPPA). Funding is specifically intended to strengthen municipal fire services and must be used for activities that fall within eligible programme categories. Applicants should identify relevant firefighter health, safety, infrastructure or emergency-response needs and demonstrate how the proposed investment aligns with programme priorities.
