About Organisation
Established in March 2006, ACCESS Development Services is a national-level livelihoods support organization that works to strengthen the income of smallholder farmers and promote sustainable agricultural practices. With a unique structure combining evidence-building, model creation, and thought leadership, ACCESS collaborates with civil society, government agencies, donors, and the private sector. The organization focuses on creating scalable models through Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), value chain development, and climate-resilient farming practices. Headquartered in Delhi, ACCESS currently operates across 34 locations in 11 Indian states including Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Gujarat, Rajasthan, and West Bengal. Its interventions have positively impacted over 4.1 lakh households, particularly targeting marginalized and vulnerable communities such as women, tribal groups, and small and marginal farmers. ACCESS also builds model FPOs that serve as learning hubs for capacity-building efforts to be replicated by government bodies and other development stakeholders.
About the Grant
ACCESS, in collaboration with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), is managing the Grant for Agroecology Program (GAP) Fund under the Investments in Agroecology Value Chain Projects (IAVCP). The GAP Fund seeks to support innovative business models promoting agroecology-based value chains. It provides grant support ranging from ₹100 lakhs to ₹200 lakhs for setting up or expanding high-impact agroecology business projects. The aim is to strengthen Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) and Producer Organization Enterprises (POEs) that improve agroecological outcomes and benefit small producers. These grants come with technical assistance and ecosystem support to ensure long-term sustainability. Enterprises selected under the GAP Challenge will also gain opportunities to pitch to investors and join a network of agroecology-focused enterprises. The grant emphasizes building sustainable food systems and scaling agroecological innovations that uplift rural livelihoods.
Who can Apply?
The GAP Challenge is open to a wide range of agroecology-linked enterprises across India. Eligible applicants include Producer Organization Enterprises (POEs) such as Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), Producer Companies, Producer Cooperatives, Federations of SHGs, and other collective producer enterprises. Additionally, Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) that are for-profit, including start-ups and individual entrepreneurs involved in agroecology value chains, are also eligible—provided they are legally registered. NGOs and non-profit organizations are not eligible to apply directly for the grant but may support POEs or MSEs in developing and submitting their proposals. Projects may be based anywhere in India, provided they align with the objectives of enhancing agroecological value chains and creating sustainable impact for smallholder producers.
