About Organisation

The World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) is a globally recognized nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing cancer prevention and improving the lives of cancer survivors through scientific research. Established with the mission of understanding the links between diet, nutrition, body composition, and physical activity and their impact on cancer, WCRF supports cutting-edge studies that aim to reduce the burden of cancer worldwide. The organization works in collaboration with researchers, clinicians, and public health experts to promote evidence-based recommendations and policy development. WCRF’s initiatives span multiple regions, fostering partnerships and encouraging interdisciplinary approaches to cancer research. With a focus on innovation and translational science, the organization aims to translate findings from the lab to real-world interventions that can benefit diverse populations. WCRF’s grant programs are designed to support early-stage research, provide critical funding to emerging scientists, and contribute to global knowledge on cancer prevention. Their commitment extends beyond funding by promoting public awareness, advocating for healthier lifestyle choices, and empowering communities to engage with scientific research. WCRF remains a vital resource for researchers exploring the complex relationship between lifestyle factors and cancer risk and survivorship.

About the Grant

The Regular Grant Programme by WCRF is aimed at supporting innovative research that explores the relationship between diet, nutrition, body composition, and physical activity in relation to cancer prevention and survivorship. The programme offers Pilot and Feasibility Grants, which are designed to help researchers collect preliminary data, test study protocols, and refine methodologies that may form the basis for future, larger projects. These grants are particularly useful for investigators seeking to establish the feasibility of their research ideas and to demonstrate proof of concept. The focus areas include how lifestyle factors influence cancer risk, progression, and recovery, as well as identifying mechanisms that could be targeted for intervention. WCRF emphasizes research that not only enhances scientific understanding but also has practical implications for public health strategies. The grant encourages interdisciplinary collaborations and welcomes diverse approaches, whether through mechanistic studies or assessments of individual susceptibility to cancer. Furthermore, the programme promotes patient and public involvement, ensuring that research outcomes are aligned with real-world needs. The grants provide critical funding for high-potential projects that can lead to significant advancements in cancer prevention and care.

Who can Apply?

The Pilot and Feasibility Grants are open to individuals working in research institutions around the world, excluding applicants based in North, Central, or South America. The lead researcher must hold a formal research position at the institution for the entire duration of the project. The grant supports early-stage research projects, making it ideal for researchers who need preliminary data to establish feasibility or generate insights for larger, future studies. Applicants are expected to focus on the role of diet, nutrition, body composition, or physical activity in cancer prevention or survivorship. Multidisciplinary approaches are encouraged, and research can cover mechanistic studies, behavioral interventions, or investigations into host factors affecting cancer susceptibility. Collaborations between research teams are welcomed, as are projects that involve patient groups or community organizations to ensure research outcomes are relevant and impactful. However, a maximum of five applications per institution is allowed per funding cycle, and each Principal Investigator may submit only one application. WCRF supports innovative, original ideas, and prioritizes research that has the potential to influence public health policies or contribute to scientific understanding. Researchers must demonstrate the relevance, feasibility, and potential impact of their study.

How to Apply?

Applications must be submitted through the designated grants management platform. The process begins with an Outline Application, where applicants provide a summary of the proposed research. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to submit a Full Application with detailed methodology, timelines, and budget. All applications must meet eligibility criteria and focus areas as outlined by the grant guidelines. Careful planning and alignment with the research priorities are essential for success.

Application Deadline

The Outline Application must be submitted by 4 November 2025. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to submit the Full Application, with deadlines expected in February and March 2026.
