About Organisation
The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), an agency of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, works with farmers, landowners and conservation partners to protect and sustainably manage natural resources. Its programmes support conservation of soil, water, wetlands and other environmentally important resources while helping agricultural communities maintain productive operations. Through technical assistance, partnerships and financial support, NRCS promotes voluntary conservation practices across the United States. The Wetland Mitigation Banking Program 2026 advances these objectives by supporting eligible entities that develop mitigation banks and expand wetland conservation opportunities for agricultural producers subject to federal wetland conservation compliance requirements.
About the Grant
The Wetland Mitigation Banking Program 2026 provides competitive funding to develop and establish wetland mitigation banks and banking opportunities for agricultural producers. The programme specifically assists producers with wetlands subject to conservation compliance provisions under the Food Security Act of 1985, as amended. Projects can contribute to wetland restoration, environmental protection and sustainable natural resource management while expanding practical mitigation opportunities. NRCS has made US$3 million available for this funding round. Priority is given to projects in states with significant wetland acreage, individual wetlands and conservation compliance requests, helping strengthen both agricultural conservation and long-term environmental stewardship.
Who can Apply?
Eligible applicants for the Wetland Mitigation Banking Program 2026 include public, state-controlled and private higher education institutions; nonprofits with or without 501(c)(3) status; small businesses; other for-profit organisations; and eligible government entities. County, city, township, state and special district governments may apply, along with federally recognised Native American tribal governments and other eligible tribal organisations. Projects must focus on developing or establishing mitigation banks and banking opportunities for agricultural producers subject to wetland conservation compliance requirements. Priority consideration is given to projects located in states identified by NRCS as having significant wetland conservation needs.
How to Apply?
Applicants should review the official funding announcement and confirm organisational and project eligibility. Prepare a competitive proposal covering the proposed wetland mitigation bank, conservation objectives, environmental benefits, implementation strategy, budget, timeline, organisational qualifications and long-term management approach. Projects should clearly demonstrate benefits for agricultural conservation compliance and wetland protection. Complete applications and all required supporting documents must be submitted through the federal grant application system before the deadline.
Application Deadline
The application deadline is September 8, 2026.
