About Organisation

Unitaid is a global health initiative hosted by the World Health Organization (WHO) that seeks to accelerate access to diagnostics, treatments, and prevention tools for priority diseases in low- and middle-income countries. It invests in innovations and scale-up efforts to reduce disease burden and health inequities, especially in underserved settings. Unitaid works in close partnership with governments, non-profits, manufacturers, and civil society, focusing on tools that are affordable, accessible and effective in real-world health systems. Through its calls for proposals and grant programmes, Unitaid supports projects that strengthen health systems, improve diagnostics, and link patients to care across diverse disease areas.

About the Grant

This Call for Proposals, titled “Improving access to diagnostics through the adoption of integrated tools and delivery approaches”, supports projects aiming to increase access to affordable, effective diagnostic solutions that enable multi-disease detection and diagnosis, especially in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).

Key features include:

  • Encouraging the design and deployment of integrated diagnostic strategies in partnership with countries and affected communities.

  • Accelerating the adoption of integrated diagnostic tools, including molecular diagnostics and point-of-care technologies, and facilitating their introduction where they are new to market or under-used.

  • Projects must operate across 4-5 countries and align with national health systems, data infrastructure, and disease programmes (e.g., HIV, TB, hepatitis, cervical cancer, women & children’s health).

  • The total approximate funding available is USD 25 million for all selected projects.

This grant is a strategic effort to break down diagnostic silos, optimize existing infrastructure, and build scalable models of integrated testing and care.

Who can Apply?

Eligibility highlights include:

  • Lead applicants should have a regional or south-based leadership role, and proposals should cover 4-5 countries.

  • Organisations operating in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) with experience in diagnostics, health systems strengthening, or multi-disease programmes are preferred.

  • Projects must be country-led (collaborating with national laboratory directorates or health ministries) with strong civil society, community engagement and alignment with national priorities.

  • Activities may include introduction of new diagnostic tools, integration of testing platforms, or delivery innovations—especially at or near point-of-care.

  • Applicants must demonstrate readiness to deploy diagnostic interventions, generate evidence on feasibility and scalability, and align with national systems and data interoperability.

How to Apply?

Interested organisations should follow the application instructions provided on Unitaid’s website. Key steps include: register intent to submit (optional but recommended), prepare full proposal using the official template, and submit the complete application electronically by the deadline.
