UNICEF, the United Nations Children’s Fund, works globally to provide humanitarian aid and advocate for the rights of children. Their mission is to ensure every child has the opportunity to grow up healthy, safe, and with access to education, clean water, and protection from harm. With a presence in over 190 countries, UNICEF collaborates with governments, organizations, and communities to address the most pressing issues children face, such as poverty, inequality, and access to education. UNICEF’s Innovation Fund focuses on advancing technology solutions that aim to improve children’s lives, leveraging innovative approaches and digital tools to address global challenges.

About the Grant

The UNICEF Venture Fund provides up to $100,000 in equity-free funding for open-source tech startups that have the potential to create positive, lasting change for children. The fund seeks innovative solutions in areas like misinformation, data collection, digital trust, and social media’s impact. Selected startups can utilize the funding to advance technology solutions using AI, blockchain, and other digital tools. These solutions aim to improve children’s lives by increasing media literacy, combating misinformation, and ensuring data integrity in digital environments.

Who can Apply?

The UNICEF Venture Fund is open to early-stage, for-profit tech startups that focus on open-source solutions and align with UNICEF’s mission to improve children’s lives. Eligible applicants must be registered as private companies in UNICEF programme countries, have a working prototype, and use open-source licenses like GNU General Public, MIT, or BSD for software. Startups should demonstrate the potential to address critical issues, such as misinformation, data integrity, or digital trust, and positively impact vulnerable children’s lives. Additionally, applicants must be able to generate real-time, measurable data and have promising results from initial pilots.
