About Organisation
The Thalia WB Community Fund, managed by the Cambridgeshire Community Foundation, is dedicated to supporting community and environmental improvement projects across Cambridgeshire. Operating under the national Landfill Communities Fund scheme, the program aims to enhance local environments and public amenities by funding capital projects that deliver lasting benefits to the community. Previously known as the Amey Community Fund, it continues to promote sustainability, conservation, and heritage protection through responsible resource management and waste reduction practices. The Fund’s mission is to strengthen communities by supporting non-profit organisations that work towards creating accessible, environmentally friendly, and culturally significant spaces. By providing strategic financial support, Thalia WB enables grassroots organisations to bring well-planned environmental, recreational, and restoration projects to life. Its focus extends beyond physical infrastructure, encouraging collaboration, long-term impact, and community participation in local environmental development. Through transparent funding processes and targeted priorities, the Fund remains a trusted partner in advancing environmental stewardship and community well-being across the Cambridgeshire region.
About the Grant
The Thalia WB Community Fund Grants for Environmental and Public Projects provide essential financial support for initiatives that enhance local environments, public spaces, and heritage structures. Eligible projects must be located within 10 miles of a registered landfill site in Cambridgeshire and demonstrate clear public benefit. The grant supports a wide range of objectives including the creation, maintenance, or improvement of public parks and amenities; conservation of specific species or habitats; and restoration or preservation of buildings of historical, architectural, or religious significance that are open to the public. Funded through the Landfill Communities Fund, the program aims to ensure that waste management and environmental care contribute positively to nearby communities. Grants range from £10,000 to £50,000, with conservation projects eligible from £5,000. Applicants must contribute 11% of the total grant value and can receive payments in one or two instalments after verified project expenditure. The program places emphasis on readiness—projects must be capable of starting within six months, with permissions, cost estimates, and most funding secured before application. This grant continues Thalia WB’s mission to promote environmental responsibility, community engagement, and cultural heritage conservation across Cambridgeshire.
Who can Apply?
The Thalia WB Community Fund is open to non-profit organisations based in Cambridgeshire whose projects fall within 10 miles of a registered landfill site. Eligible applicants include registered charities, parish councils, constituted community groups, and other not-for-profit organisations with clear public benefit objectives. To qualify, organisations must have a formal constitution, an independent management committee, and two authorised bank signatories. They are also required to have safeguarding, equality, and conflict of interest policies in place, demonstrating strong governance standards. District, city, and county councils are not eligible to apply. Projects must align with one or more of Entrust’s criteria under Objects D, DA, and E, which support public amenities, biodiversity conservation, and heritage restoration. Applicants are expected to contribute 11% of the grant request amount and have secured most of the total project funding before submission. Proposed projects must be well-developed, with accurate cost estimates, identified contractors, and necessary planning permissions. The program prioritises projects that can commence within six months of approval and provide measurable community or environmental benefits. Financial commitments to suppliers before a formal grant offer are not permitted. The Fund encourages applications from groups committed to environmental sustainability and inclusive community growth.
How to Apply?
Eligible organisations must submit a detailed online application through the Cambridgeshire Community Foundation, outlining the project’s objectives, budget, environmental or community impact, and readiness to begin. Supporting documents, including governance policies, financial accounts, and proof of permissions, must accompany the application. Applicants are encouraged to demonstrate majority funding secured and readiness to commence work within six months of the award.
