About Organisation
The Technology Innovation Hub (TIH) at IIT Bombay, established under the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS) by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, is a Section-8 (not-for-profit) company. It serves as a national hub for Internet of Things (IoT) technologies, aiming to foster innovation and entrepreneurship through cutting-edge research. TIH-IoT acts as an aggregator of IoT technologies and plays a key role in bridging the gap between academic research and industrial application.
With a vision to become the world’s premier IoT hub, TIH-IoT facilitates the transformation of novel ideas into prototypes, tested solutions, and eventually commercially viable technologies. The organisation focuses on system-level implementation and supports efforts that drive India’s leadership in technology-driven economic growth. Through collaborative initiatives with academia and industry, TIH-IoT nurtures a thriving ecosystem for advanced tech innovation, providing resources for development, commercialization, and intellectual property management. The hub emphasizes practical impact, aiming to deliver affordable, indigenous technological solutions that address real-world challenges across multiple sectors including healthcare, agriculture, and supply chains.
About the Grant
TIH-IoT at IIT Bombay invites proposals under its technology development vertical to accelerate commercialization and bridge the academia-industry gap, particularly in the IoT and Internet of Everything (IoE) domains. This grant specifically supports application-oriented development in indigenous sensor technologies for healthcare, agriculture, and future-ready supply chains, as well as MedTech devices for early diagnosis and point-of-care applications.
Each project should demonstrate a Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of 4 or higher—indicating that solutions have gone beyond proof-of-concept and are ready for practical validation and integration. Purely theoretical or AI-ML-only models are not eligible. The goal is to support tangible innovations that can be deployed in real-world environments and lead to cost-effective, scalable solutions with commercialization potential.
Grants of up to ₹50 Lakhs are available for a duration of up to 18 months. In addition to financial assistance, successful applicants will receive support for intellectual property evaluation and commercialization. IP rights arising from the project will be jointly held by TIH-IoT and the grantee. This initiative is designed to boost self-reliant innovation in deep-tech areas and support India’s technology-led development agenda.
Who can Apply?
Proposals are invited from individual researchers or teams affiliated with Indian academic institutions, research labs, or universities. Applicants must be Indian citizens and associated with institutions that are recognized by NAAC, UGC, AICTE, or any equivalent authority. Only institutions that are publicly funded or government-supported are eligible.
The Principal Investigator (PI) or Project Leader will be responsible for both the technical and managerial execution of the project. Applicants may submit more than one proposal, provided each addresses a different problem statement. Each proposal must be submitted separately.
Only those projects that have achieved a Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of 4 or above are eligible. The project must focus on actual development and validation of hardware or systems in the areas of healthcare, agriculture, MedTech, or supply chain optimization using indigenous sensor technologies. Proposals focused solely on theoretical, mathematical, or software-based models without hardware integration will not be considered.
Applicants must ensure that their institution endorses the project via a formal letter of support. A clearly defined problem-solving methodology and potential for commercialization are essential. The proposal should also demonstrate a practical implementation plan aligned with the objectives outlined by TIH-IoT.
How to Apply?
Applicants must submit their proposals using the prescribed application form, along with supporting documents including the project proposal, presentation, milestones, budget formats, and endorsement letter. A 2-minute video showcasing the product or use case is optional but encouraged. Each project must be submitted individually using the required formats and must follow the application guidelines strictly for successful consideration.
Application Deadline
The deadline to submit complete applications along with all supporting documents in the prescribed formats is 20th July. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered for funding.
Last Date To Apply
All proposals, along with the necessary documentation and endorsements, must be submitted by 20th July. Applicants are advised to adhere strictly to the submission requirements to avoid disqualification.
Grant Amount
Successful applicants will receive funding support of up to ₹50 Lakhs per project for a maximum period of 18 months, along with guidance for commercialization and intellectual property management.
