About Organisation

The Conflict Research Society (CRS) is an international community of scholars and practitioners dedicated to advancing the study and practice of peacebuilding, conflict resolution, and international relations. Founded in 1963, CRS fosters interdisciplinary dialogue and promotes research that deepens the understanding of conflict dynamics and supports effective strategies for peace. Through conferences, publications, and grant programs, CRS nurtures emerging researchers and connects academic inquiry with policy and practice.
One of its key initiatives, the Sydney Bailey Fund, continues the legacy of Dr. Sydney Bailey, a distinguished peace advocate and scholar who contributed significantly to global disarmament and human rights discourse. The Fund embodies CRS’s mission to empower the next generation of researchers exploring innovative approaches to peace, justice, and conflict transformation. By supporting PhD students from around the world, CRS aims to strengthen research capacity, elevate diverse perspectives, and build a global network committed to fostering lasting peace through evidence-based scholarship.

About the Grant

The Sydney Bailey Fund 2025, offered by the Conflict Research Society (CRS), provides grants of up to £1,000 to PhD students conducting research in peace and conflict studies. The funding is intended to support essential research activities such as fieldwork travel, data collection, or hiring research assistance. However, it does not cover costs related to conference attendance or equipment purchases.
Preference is given to applicants who lack institutional or external funding and those who have participated in CRS events or conferences. Awardees will have the opportunity to present their research at the CRS Annual Conference and contribute to the society’s knowledge-sharing initiatives by recording a short video or podcast about their work.
This grant aligns with CRS’s vision of promoting world-class, socially relevant research that advances peace and conflict resolution. By offering targeted financial support, the Sydney Bailey Fund ensures that talented doctoral researchers—especially those with limited resources—can complete impactful projects that contribute to academic and policy understanding of global peace and security.
