About Organisation

The Shropshire Community Foundation works to strengthen local communities by supporting individuals and organisations across Shropshire, including Telford & Wrekin. The foundation’s mission is to promote wellbeing, alleviate hardship, and create lasting impact through grantmaking and philanthropy. By connecting donors with causes that matter most, it helps address pressing social challenges and improve lives at a local level. Through its various funds, the Foundation ensures that support reaches the most vulnerable, enabling inclusive opportunities for individuals and families facing difficult circumstances.
One of its compassionate initiatives, “A Gift from Zac” Fund, was established in memory of Zac, whose legacy continues to inspire hope and provide comfort to young people affected by cancer. The Foundation embodies a spirit of care, collaboration, and community—working closely with local partners, families, and organisations to ensure that every grant creates meaningful change.

About the Grant

The “A Gift from Zac” Fund offers financial support to children and young people up to 21 years of age who have been diagnosed with cancer. The fund is designed to ease the emotional and financial burden families experience during treatment and recovery. It provides flexible assistance tailored to individual needs, covering essential and wellbeing-related expenses such as travel for medical appointments, respite activities, equipment, education, or palliative care.
Applications are accepted from individuals or organisations applying on behalf of eligible young people within Shropshire, including Telford & Wrekin. In exceptional cases, applications from just outside the area may also be considered. The fund does not follow a strict formula; instead, it focuses on addressing real and immediate challenges that enhance quality of life. Through this initiative, Zac’s legacy continues to bring hope, strength, and joy to young cancer patients and their families.

Who can Apply?

Applications are open to:

  • Children and young people up to the age of 21 who have been diagnosed with cancer.

  • Families or caregivers seeking support for eligible young people undergoing or recovering from cancer treatment.

  • Organisations such as hospitals, community groups, or charities that apply on behalf of eligible young individuals within Shropshire or, in exceptional cases, nearby areas.

Applicants must clearly outline how the grant will improve the young person’s wellbeing or quality of life during treatment or recovery. Grants may be used for travel expenses to medical facilities, equipment to aid treatment or rehabilitation, respite and recreational activities, educational support, or other practical needs related to their care. Each application is reviewed on a case-by-case basis to ensure the funding has a tangible impact on the recipient’s wellbeing.

How to Apply?

Interested individuals or organisations must complete the application form available through the Shropshire Community Foundation. Applications should detail the applicant’s circumstances, the support required, and the expected impact of the grant. Submissions are reviewed individually, and successful applicants are notified directly by the Foundation.
