 Sewa International

Grant Amount:₹1.75 lakhs

Application Deadline:

10 June 2025

About Organisation

Sewa International emerged in response to the 1993 Latur earthquake, when a group of committed individuals united to serve humanity during a time of crisis. Rooted in the Indian value of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam – the belief that the world is one family – Sewa International grew from a modest volunteer initiative into a global humanitarian movement. Mobilizing the Indian diaspora, the organization extended its reach across 20+ countries, fostering a spirit of service and connection with the homeland. Formally registered on May 16, 1997, under the Indian Trust Act of 1882, Sewa International has since adopted a comprehensive development approach aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The organization works across diverse sectors including education, health, environment, and livelihood, supporting grassroots efforts and nurturing leadership committed to national development. Its enduring mission is to uplift communities through dedicated service and holistic development, with a vision of transforming society through empowered individuals and resilient institutions.

About the Grant

The Sewa Fellowship is a structured 100-week experiential learning program designed to develop future grassroots leaders. Combining academic learning with hands-on fieldwork, it equips fellows to work at the intersection of individual transformation and institutional impact. The program emphasizes deep community engagement, reflective exercises, and cross-sectoral exposure in domains such as education, health, livelihood, and environment. Fellows receive monthly stipends, expert mentorship from over 50 professionals, and access to a multidisciplinary curriculum led by practitioners from around the world. By partnering with culturally conscious social organizations, fellows contribute meaningfully to nation-building while developing leadership capacities grounded in service. On successful completion, each fellow is awarded a grant to further their journey in the development sector. Sewa Fellowship is more than a leadership program—it’s a nation-building mission that fosters social commitment, leadership, and the will to bring transformative change at the grassroots level.

Who can Apply?

The Sewa Fellowship is open to passionate individuals between the ages of 21 and 30 who are committed to creating social impact at the grassroots level. Applicants must have prior volunteering experience with communities or at least one year of equivalent work experience in a related field. The program seeks individuals with a service-oriented mindset and leadership potential who are ready to dedicate two years to meaningful fieldwork. Language proficiency may be required depending on project location, as fellows will be placed with grassroots organizations in various regions of India. This opportunity is ideal for those who aspire to pursue a long-term career in development and wish to gain in-depth, immersive experience across critical sectors such as education, health, livelihood, and environmental sustainability. Candidates should demonstrate resilience, adaptability, and a strong commitment to nation-building through community engagement.
