Call for Grant Applications – Economics of Climate Risks, Natural Resource Use, and Environmental Change
Application Deadline:
December 31, 2024
About Organisation
SANDEE (South Asian Network for Development and Environmental Economics) is a research capacity-building and academic leadership network under ICIMOD. It supports researchers and institutions in South Asia and the Hindu Kush Himalaya (HKH) region, focusing on the intersections of economic development, environmental sustainability, and natural resource management. ICIMOD’s 2023–2026 vision emphasizes creating a greener, more inclusive, and climate-resilient HKH by addressing three key areas: reducing climate and environmental risks, fostering resilient mountain economies and landscapes, and enabling sustainable regional and global mechanisms. SANDEE contributes to this vision by supporting interdisciplinary and policy-relevant research that aids in understanding the economic dynamics of climate adaptation, disaster risk reduction, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable livelihoods.
About the Grant
SANDEE invites concept notes in environmental and resource economics addressing South Asia and the HKH region’s developmental challenges. Proposals must align with ICIMOD’s strategic focus areas: reducing climate risks, fostering resilient mountain economies, and evaluating global mechanisms for biodiversity and climate objectives. Proposals should demonstrate clear policy relevance and focus on producing high-impact academic outputs. SANDEE values interdisciplinary projects, cross-border collaborations, and gender-focused research, prioritizing those with robust economic methodologies. Grants are competitive and aim to encourage innovative, actionable research that contributes to regional development and environmental sustainability.
Who can Apply?
Researchers based in South Asia and the HKH region are eligible. Applicants should be junior to mid-career professionals affiliated with universities, research institutes, or similar organizations, including government agencies and non-profits. Senior researchers (e.g., professors, directors) are not eligible. Women researchers are strongly encouraged to apply. Institutional affiliation is mandatory, and successful applicants must provide a support letter from their institution during the full proposal stage. Researchers with relatives at ICIMOD or current consultants are ineligible. Teams involving interdisciplinary or transboundary research must clearly outline roles and responsibilities.
