About Organisation
The National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB), under the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, works to promote the cultivation, conservation and sustainable use of medicinal plants. Its programmes support medicinal plant development, awareness, cultivation and related activities across India. The Board also works with government organisations, institutions and other eligible stakeholders to strengthen the availability and sustainable development of medicinal plant resources. Through the Poshan Vatika initiative, NMPB is supporting nutrition gardens in Eklavya Model Residential Schools to encourage access to nutritious fruits, vegetables and medicinal plants. The programme connects nutrition, biodiversity, traditional knowledge and sustainable gardening in educational settings.
About the Grant
The Poshan Vatika Grant 2026 supports the establishment of nutrition gardens in Eklavya Model Residential Schools across India. The initiative aims to promote better nutrition among school children through the cultivation of fruits, vegetables and nutritionally valuable medicinal plants. Proposed gardens should contain at least 30 plant species and can cover an area ranging from 100 square metres to larger eligible plots. Funding can support garden establishment, planting materials, irrigation, maintenance, training, awareness activities, signage and related requirements. For organisations seeking NGO grants India, nutrition grants India and government grants for community development, the programme offers three years of financial assistance for eligible projects.
Who can Apply?
Eligible applicants include government organisations, NGOs and voluntary organisations with demonstrated experience relevant to the proposed Poshan Vatika project. Applicants should be capable of establishing and maintaining a nutrition garden within an eligible Eklavya Model Residential School. The proposed site should have suitable cultivable land and the necessary conditions for plantation and maintenance, including appropriate irrigation and arrangements for ongoing upkeep. Projects should include at least 30 suitable plant species and activities such as training, awareness and educational support. Organisations applying for government grants for NGOs should demonstrate the capacity to implement, monitor and maintain the garden for the full project period.
How to Apply?
Eligible organisations should identify an eligible Eklavya Model Residential School and prepare a project proposal for establishing the Poshan Vatika. The proposal should describe the site, proposed plant species, garden design, irrigation, maintenance, training, awareness and expected nutrition benefits. Applicants must provide the required organisational and project information and submit the proposal through the designated online application portal before the deadline.
