About the Grant
The FMN Prize for Innovation is an annual initiative designed to encourage innovative solutions that improve food production systems in Nigeria. The competition invites creative ideas, engineering solutions, and practical innovations that can strengthen agricultural value chains and support sustainable food production. The 2026 edition focuses on cassava production and processing, a critical staple crop in Nigeria. The prize seeks solutions that enhance cultivation techniques, improve processing efficiency, reduce post-harvest losses, and create economic opportunities. By highlighting scalable and practical innovations, the programme aims to support long-term development of Nigeria’s agriculture sector and encourage innovation among entrepreneurs and students.
Who can Apply?
The competition is open to two categories of applicants in Nigeria. The first category includes registered small and medium-sized enterprises operating in the food and agro-allied sector. These businesses should demonstrate practical solutions that can be implemented at scale and create real impact in the agricultural value chain. The second category includes Nigerian undergraduate and postgraduate students enrolled in accredited universities. Student applicants are encouraged to submit research-based or experimental ideas related to cassava production and processing. All applicants should present innovative, practical, and sustainable solutions that address challenges within the cassava value chain and contribute to improving food production and agricultural development in Nigeria.
How to Apply?
Applicants must confirm their eligibility as either a Nigerian SME or a university student. Participants should develop a clear proposal describing their innovative idea related to cassava production or processing. Supporting materials such as concept notes, research data, business plans, or project outlines may be required. Completed applications must be submitted according to the official submission guidelines of the competition. Shortlisted applicants may be evaluated by an expert panel.
