It offers scholars access to one of the world’s richest collections of Renaissance resources and provides a stimulating academic environment. The Warburg Institute, based in London, is a renowned center for the study of cultural history and the transmission of ideas across time and space, particularly during the Renaissance. Together, these institutions bring a unique interdisciplinary perspective, focusing on the connections between art, science, knowledge, philosophy, and culture. Their collaboration offers an unparalleled opportunity for academic enrichment, intellectual exchange, and access to world-class libraries and archives. By supporting innovative research, both institutions aim to nurture future leaders in Renaissance and cultural studies. Their fellowship programs are designed to foster global dialogue, strengthen academic networks, and promote meaningful scholarship that deepens the understanding of intellectual and cultural movements across early modern Europe.
About the Grant
The Warburg/I Tatti Joint Fellowship is a residential program designed for early and mid-career scholars in Renaissance studies. It supports innovative research on the history of science, knowledge, and technology, with particular emphasis on early modern Italy and related intellectual currents. Scholars also focusing on the transmission of ideas, people, and objects during the Renaissance, or on the historiography of the Italian Renaissance, are encouraged to apply. Fellows will divide their time between the Warburg Institute in London for the fall term and Villa I Tatti in Florence for the spring term. The fellowship is fully residential, requiring fellows to immerse themselves in the scholarly communities of both institutions. Access to exceptional resources such as the Biblioteca Berenson and participation in academic activities ensure a dynamic and enriching research experience. By fostering collaboration across borders, the fellowship strengthens academic inquiry and contributes to global scholarship on Renaissance history and thought.
