About Organisation

One World Media is a UK-based non-profit organization founded over 30 years ago by a collective of journalists who sought to transform the narrative of international reporting. At a time when media coverage of the global south was limited and often riddled with stereotypes, they aimed to foster more accurate, inclusive, and diverse storytelling. Their mission was to promote high-quality journalism that informs, connects, and inspires global understanding.

Over the decades, One World Media has grown into a leading institution supporting journalists and documentary filmmakers committed to telling underreported stories from low- and middle-income countries. It works globally to develop the capacity of storytellers and strengthen media that contributes to justice, human rights, and development.

By providing mentorship, funding, training, and networking opportunities, One World Media supports the creation of impactful journalism and creative storytelling that bridges cultural divides. The organization is especially committed to nurturing emerging talent and amplifying voices from underrepresented backgrounds, including people of color, ethnic minorities, women, LGBTQ+ individuals, and people with disabilities. Through its flagship fellowship program and awards, One World Media continues to spotlight powerful, human-centered stories that challenge assumptions and encourage global solidarity.

About the Grant

The One World Media Fellowship is a prestigious program designed to support mid-career journalists and filmmakers from the global south. Focused on empowering storytellers working in film, print, audio, photojournalism, and multimedia, the fellowship aims to amplify stories that break stereotypes and offer fresh perspectives from low- and middle-income countries.

Each year, a cohort of talented fellows is selected to receive a range of support including mentoring from industry experts, executive producer oversight, and a reporting grant of £1,000–£3,000. Fellows also gain access to workshops, networking events, and long-term membership in a global community of storytellers and media professionals.

Since 2001, nearly 300 fellows have reported from over 100 countries under this initiative. The program fosters innovative, high-impact journalism and documentary content that explores social, political, and cultural realities with nuance and authenticity. With a growing network of partners and more tailored opportunities each year, the fellowship is evolving to accommodate a wider range of projects and formats.

Fellows are expected to develop strong, publishable stories for professional outlets, offering insights that educate global audiences and contribute meaningfully to public discourse.
