About Organisation

The Joke Waller-Hunter Initiative (JWHI), managed by Both ENDS, is dedicated to empowering young environmental leaders from the Global South. Named in honour of Joke Waller-Hunter, a pioneer in sustainable development, the initiative seeks to inspire and equip a new generation of changemakers. JWHI focuses on nurturing the skills, knowledge, and confidence of mid-level professionals working in environmental sustainability, climate justice, and social equity. By supporting individual growth rather than organisational needs, the initiative ensures that its resources directly enhance the leadership capacity of promising individuals. Both ENDS, as the implementing organisation, works globally to promote fair and sustainable environmental solutions, fostering collaboration across civil society, grassroots groups, and advocacy movements. Together, they strive to address urgent global challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and environmental injustice. JWHI believes that impactful, locally-driven solutions emerge when individuals are empowered to take leadership in their communities and sectors. Through customised learning opportunities, international exposure, and targeted skill-building, the initiative provides recipients with the tools they need to become influential voices in shaping sustainable futures. Over the years, JWHI has built a growing network of alumni who continue to advance transformative change across diverse regions and contexts.
