About Organisation
The J. N. Derbyshire Trust, administered by the Community Foundation for Nottinghamshire, is a charitable initiative dedicated to improving the quality of life for residents in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. The Trust has a long-standing legacy of supporting local community and voluntary organisations that strive to create lasting social change. Rooted in the principles of philanthropy and community empowerment, the Trust aims to strengthen local infrastructure by supporting projects that address health disparities, educational challenges, and socio-economic inequalities. Through its targeted grant-making, the Trust focuses on promoting physical improvement, advancing education, and alleviating poverty, distress, and sickness. Its mission is to build stronger, healthier, and more connected communities by empowering grassroots organisations that understand local needs. By investing in smaller charities and not-for-profit groups, the Trust ensures that funding reaches those who are closest to the communities they serve, fostering sustainable and measurable impact.
About the Grant
The J. N. Derbyshire Trust Grant Program provides financial assistance to community-based projects that directly contribute to the welfare and development of residents within Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. The grant supports a diverse range of initiatives that promote health and well-being, encourage education and learning, enhance physical spaces, and provide relief to individuals facing poverty or distress. Through this program, the Trust aims to ensure equitable access to resources that improve everyday life, particularly for vulnerable or underrepresented groups. The grant is designed to support small and medium-sized organisations that demonstrate innovation, local engagement, and measurable impact in addressing community priorities. Funding decisions are made biannually, ensuring that high-quality proposals receive timely consideration. The program reflects the Trust’s dedication to preserving its founder’s philanthropic vision by investing in sustainable community development. Successful applicants are expected to deliver projects that not only benefit residents immediately but also contribute to long-term social resilience and community cohesion across the Nottinghamshire region.
Who can Apply?
The J. N. Derbyshire Trust Grant Program is open to registered charities, Community Interest Companies (CICs), and Charitable Incorporated Organisations (CIOs) that operate on a non-profit basis and are based in or serve communities within Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. Eligible organisations must have been operational for a minimum of two years and possess at least two years of financial accounts to demonstrate sound management and accountability. Applicants should focus on projects that promote health improvement, educational advancement, physical development, and the alleviation of poverty or distress. The Trust particularly welcomes applications from grassroots and community-led initiatives that have a proven record of delivering positive outcomes and addressing local challenges effectively. However, individuals and large national charities with an annual income exceeding £1 million are not eligible to apply. In addition, the Trust does not provide grants for projects primarily outside Nottinghamshire or those that lack a clear community benefit. Preference is given to proposals that show collaboration with local partners, sustainability of outcomes, and measurable community impact. All applications are evaluated on the project’s purpose, feasibility, and the tangible benefits it brings to local residents.
How to Apply?
Eligible organisations can apply online by submitting a detailed proposal outlining the project’s objectives, budget, and expected community impact. The application should include supporting documents such as recent financial accounts and evidence of community engagement. Submissions are reviewed twice yearly, and applicants are encouraged to align their proposals with the Trust’s funding priorities before the deadline.
Application Deadline
Applications for the J. N. Derbyshire Trust Grant Program are accepted until 31 January 2026, with funding decisions made during the March and October assessment cycles each year.
