About Organisation
The Institute of International Education’s Scholar Rescue Fund (IIE-SRF) is a unique global initiative dedicated to supporting threatened and displaced scholars. It arranges, funds, and facilitates fellowships at partnering higher education institutions across the world. Since its inception, IIE-SRF has supported 1,134 scholars from 62 countries, placing them in 510 host institutions across 59 countries. The program ensures that scholars can continue their academic pursuits in safe environments. IIE-SRF offers extensive support through academic networks, career mentorship, professional development opportunities, and platforms to share their work or advocate for their home countries. With a mission to safeguard academic freedom, IIE-SRF collaborates with host institutions to provide temporary academic positions where scholars can research, teach, and rebuild their careers.
About the Grant
The IIE-SRF fellowship offers year-long academic appointments at higher education institutions globally, ensuring scholars can work safely. Fellows receive up to $25,000, health insurance, relocation funding, and opportunities for professional development. The fellowship is renewable for a second and final year. Host institutions are required to match or exceed the fellowship award, providing financial and in-kind support such as housing, airfare, or office facilities. Scholars benefit from mentorship, academic networks, and resources to enhance their careers and post-fellowship opportunities.
Who can Apply?
Scholars from any country facing threats or displacement are eligible to apply for the IIE-SRF fellowship. Applicants must demonstrate a strong academic or professional record, significant contributions to their field, and evidence of persecution or displacement due to conflict, discrimination, or repression. Host institutions must provide substantial support, ensuring scholars can thrive during their fellowship. Academic positions offered can include teaching, research, or a combination of both. While the fellowship covers relocation and essential expenses, hosting institutions are encouraged to offer additional benefits to create a holistic support package.
How to Apply?
Submit the required application materials, including a detailed academic background, proof of displacement or threat, and a host institution proposal.
