ICPO Research Call for “AI-driven advancements in Precision Oncology”

Application Deadline:
1 November 2025
About Organisation
The International Centers for Precision Oncology Foundation (ICPO) is a global non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the field of precision oncology. Its primary focus lies in promoting innovative, patient-centered approaches to cancer diagnosis and treatment through theranostics, a methodology that combines targeted diagnostics and therapies. By fostering collaboration between academic institutions, healthcare providers, researchers, and industry leaders, ICPO works to establish international standards and frameworks that improve outcomes for cancer patients. The foundation prioritizes knowledge exchange, infrastructure development, and research support to bridge existing gaps in precision oncology practices across the globe. ICPO emphasizes transparency, inclusivity, and accessibility in its mission, ensuring that advanced cancer care is not limited to select regions but made available worldwide. Through funding, scientific advisory guidance, and research initiatives, ICPO serves as a facilitator of progress without claiming ownership over generated data. Instead, it ensures that intellectual property and rights remain with the contributing institutions. By nurturing a robust ecosystem for collaboration and standardization, the foundation empowers researchers to develop groundbreaking methodologies and innovative solutions that shape the future of oncology and strengthen the global fight against cancer.
About the Grant
The ICPO Research Call for “AI-driven advancements in Precision Oncology” seeks to accelerate innovation in oncology by supporting projects focused on artificial intelligence applications. This initiative emphasizes the development of methodologies to curate, standardize, and annotate theranostics datasets, both imaging and non-imaging, which are crucial for AI-based cancer prediction models. The call prioritizes the creation of structured database frameworks, curation standards, and maintenance methods, rather than the direct collection or sharing of patient data. By fostering innovation in dataset structuring, ICPO aims to fill critical funding gaps in annotation methodologies and reference standards. Successful applicants are expected to design methodologies that enable automated structuring and annotation of unstructured theranostics data while ensuring long-term maintainability. The outcomes should include a fully standardized and transferable data framework, specifically tailored for theranostics, which can be accessed transparently by ICPO partners and collaborators. In the first year of funding, grantees must deliver a structured format for datasets, ensuring the reliability and scalability of AI integration in oncology. ICPO will provide financial support alongside guidance from its Scientific Advisory Board, but all data and associated rights will remain with the participating research institutions.
Who can Apply?
This research call is open exclusively to academic institutions engaged in oncology, AI, and related fields. Applicants must demonstrate a proven capacity for research and innovation in precision oncology and data sciences. The Principal Investigator (PI) leading the project must hold either a relevant PhD or be a qualified MD with substantial expertise in the subject area. Institutions applying should have adequate infrastructure, faculty, and resources to carry out high-level research in data curation, annotation methodologies, and framework development for theranostics. While collaborations between institutions are encouraged, the applying institution must serve as the primary host and assume accountability for project execution. It is essential that proposed projects focus solely on methodology development, data framework structuring, and annotation standards, without seeking funding for hardware procurement or direct data collection. Applicants are expected to submit a comprehensive research proposal that outlines objectives, methodologies, expected outcomes, and provisions for data framework maintenance. Supporting documents such as a cover letter or letter of intent and a detailed Curriculum Vitae of the Principal Investigator must also be provided. The eligibility criteria ensure that only institutions with the necessary expertise and leadership apply, thereby enhancing the quality and impact of funded projects.
How to Apply?
Applicants must submit a detailed research proposal, a letter of intent or cover letter, and the Principal Investigator’s current Curriculum Vitae. All applications should align with ICPO’s guidelines and objectives.
Application Deadline
The deadline for submitting applications to the ICPO Research Call is November 1, 2025. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered for evaluation.
Last Date To Apply
All interested academic institutions must ensure submission of their complete application package no later than November 1st, 2025.
Grant Amount
Each selected project will receive a maximum funding of up to €100,000, strictly for research methodologies, with no provisions for hardware expenses.
