About Organisation

The International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) is a renowned intergovernmental organization that plays a pivotal role in preserving the Hindu Kush Himalaya (HKH) region, often referred to as the “pulse of the planet.” Operating at the intersection of science, policy, and practice, ICIMOD brings together eight member countries to foster regional cooperation for sustainable mountain development. Their mission centers on protecting the people, culture, and natural resources of the HKH, a region that is home to unique biodiversity, ancient knowledge systems, and critical ecosystems that support the lives of millions.

ICIMOD acts as a global leader in addressing the challenges posed by climate change in mountainous regions. It engages with stakeholders across government, academia, civil society, and youth networks to build adaptive capacities, promote resilience, and support informed decision-making. The organization also collaborates with international partners, such as Arctic Circle, to strengthen global dialogues on climate action and environmental sustainability. ICIMOD’s commitment lies in amplifying regional voices, especially of youth and indigenous communities, to co-create solutions for the environmental and socio-economic challenges impacting high-altitude landscapes. It aims to empower local champions as stewards of their environment and catalysts for global change.

About the Grant

The HKH–Arctic Youth Leadership Forum Fellowship is a year-long opportunity for young climate leaders from the Hindu Kush Himalaya and Arctic regions. Facilitated by ICIMOD in collaboration with Arctic Circle, this fellowship aims to amplify youth voices and promote shared learning between two of the world’s most climate-vulnerable regions.

As both regions face accelerated climate change—HKH warming twice the global average, and the Arctic nearly four times faster—the program seeks to empower 12 youth champions (aged 19–35) who are already engaged in environmental efforts. These fellows will gain valuable skills, exposure, and connections to bring local challenges and solutions to the global stage.

Participants will benefit from full funding to attend the Forum launch in Reykjavik, Iceland, in October 2025. The fellowship includes intensive training, mentorship from climate and biodiversity experts, and ongoing opportunities for visibility, content creation, and international engagement. Fellows will actively participate in forums, produce youth-focused reports, and collaborate across networks to advocate for sustainable and inclusive environmental action.

This grant not only equips emerging leaders with the tools to inspire change within their communities but also strengthens solidarity and cross-cultural collaboration for long-term climate resilience and ecological stewardship.
