About Organisation

Health Care Advocates International (HCAI) is a dedicated non-profit organization that offers comprehensive healthcare and advocacy services tailored to the LGBTQ+ community. With a holistic approach to health—encompassing mental, physical, and emotional well-being—HCAI ensures that individuals receive the support they need, whether directly through their services or by connecting them to broader community resources. The organization’s primary objective is to create a safe, inclusive, and affirming environment for all individuals, particularly those who face systemic barriers to healthcare and social equity. HCAI operates both as a medical practice and an advocacy group, advocating for equal rights and access to quality care for LGBTQ+ individuals. The organization’s services span education, prevention, treatment, and long-term support. If a particular need cannot be met within HCAI’s framework, the team goes a step further to refer individuals to trusted external support systems. At the core of HCAI’s mission is a commitment to building a healthier and more equitable society for all, with special attention to the underserved. Their initiatives also extend into policy and awareness-building to reduce stigma, promote acceptance, and empower communities. By doing so, HCAI works toward transforming the lives of individuals and making inclusive healthcare a standard, not a privilege.

About the Grant

The HCAI Fund is a vital initiative aimed at supporting nonprofits that align with Health Care Advocates International’s mission to empower the LGBTQ+ community. Through this fund, HCAI offers financial assistance to organizations working to address critical issues like basic needs, safety and wellness, mental health, equality, and the elimination of stigma and discrimination. The fund is designed to enable and amplify programs that provide direct impact to LGBTQ+ individuals through services, education, advocacy, and support. Past beneficiaries include reputable groups such as the New Haven Pride Center, The Yale Gender Program, The Jim Collins Foundation, and The Youth Continuum—demonstrating HCAI’s focus on tangible community impact. Organizations that receive funding become part of a larger collective effort to ensure that LGBTQ+ individuals live safe, healthy, and dignified lives. Whether through outreach services, mental health support, or HIV/AIDS prevention and care, The HCAI Fund plays a crucial role in nurturing and sustaining initiatives that promote equity. The grant may also support advertising and marketing that directly serves the funded program. In essence, the HCAI Fund turns shared goals into a collective movement by empowering nonprofit entities committed to making a lasting difference in the lives of LGBTQ+ people.

Who can Apply?

The HCAI Fund is open to U.S.-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations whose mission aligns with that of Health Care Advocates International. To be eligible, applicants must provide services that address the LGBTQ+ community’s needs, specifically in areas such as basic needs assistance, mental health support, HIV/AIDS education and prevention, substance abuse treatment, anti-discrimination efforts, or equality in work, education, housing, and healthcare access. Special preference is given to organizations applying for the first time, although repeat applicants may be considered in exceptional circumstances. Applicants must present a clear, reasonable budget that matches the scope and purpose of the requested funding, demonstrate program planning and evaluation strategies, and show the potential for continued support and sustainability beyond the HCAI grant. A strong track record in program delivery and a commitment to the LGBTQ+ community’s well-being are essential. In addition, organizations may request funds for advertising and outreach if directly related to the program. Each organization is allowed to apply only once per year. Successful applicants will show measurable goals, a clear impact framework, and alignment with HCAI’s mission to promote health, equality, and dignity for LGBTQ+ individuals across all spectrums of life.
