The Embassy of Japan in Samoa administers the Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP), a long-standing initiative under Japan’s Official Development Assistance program. About the Grant
The Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects in Samoa provides financial support for community-based development initiatives that address basic human needs and improve quality of life. Funding is generally available up to JPY 20,000,000 (approx. WST 353,000), with flexibility for larger proposals upon consultation. The grant supports projects such as constructing or renovating schools, upgrading hospitals and health centers, improving water supply systems, and procuring essential equipment for emergency, fire, and medical services. Designed to strengthen human security, the program prioritizes projects that reduce vulnerability, enhance community resilience, and deliver sustainable, long-term benefits for local populations.
Who can Apply?
Eligible applicants include non-governmental organizations, local public authorities, educational institutions, medical institutions, and other non-profit entities engaged in development work within Samoa. Applicants must demonstrate strong community relevance, clear project need, and capacity to implement proposed activities. Projects should contribute to essential sectors such as basic education, healthcare, social welfare, water and sanitation, disaster preparedness, or environmental protection. Organizations must be legally registered, financially accountable, and committed to maintaining the facilities or equipment funded. Proposals that show sustainability, community involvement, and long-term impact will receive priority. Collaboration with local stakeholders and transparent budgeting is essential for eligibility.
How to Apply?
Applicants must submit a detailed project proposal to the Embassy of Japan in Samoa, outlining objectives, beneficiaries, implementation plan, sustainability measures, and budget. Supporting documents such as registration certificates, quotations, maps, or community endorsements may be required. Organizations should consult the Embassy for projects exceeding the standard funding limit. Early engagement and clarity on long-term maintenance responsibilities strengthen the application.
