About Organisation

The Embassy of Japan in Samoa administers the Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP), a long-standing initiative under Japan’s Official Development Assistance program. The GGP supports small-scale, community-focused projects that directly improve living conditions, reduce vulnerability, and strengthen human security. Through this program, Japan partners with local organizations to address urgent community needs in education, health, water, disaster resilience, and social welfare. The aim is to empower grassroots institutions with the resources needed to implement sustainable, impactful solutions. Japan’s commitment to inclusive development ensures that underserved communities benefit from improved infrastructure, essential services, and enhanced resilience.

About the Grant

The Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects in Samoa provides financial support for community-based development initiatives that address basic human needs and improve quality of life. Funding is generally available up to JPY 20,000,000 (approx. WST 353,000), with flexibility for larger proposals upon consultation. The grant supports projects such as constructing or renovating schools, upgrading hospitals and health centers, improving water supply systems, and procuring essential equipment for emergency, fire, and medical services. Designed to strengthen human security, the program prioritizes projects that reduce vulnerability, enhance community resilience, and deliver sustainable, long-term benefits for local populations.
