Call for Grant Applications – Worldwide Universities Network (WUN) for Research Development Fund 2024
Application Deadline:
Oct 18, 2024
About Organisation
The WUN is a worldwide network of 24 universities across six continents that has been identified as a leading global higher education and research. With the best minds and scholars increasingly dispersed globally, the WUN capitalizes on this diversity by bringing together major universities from different geographic and cultural contexts. Through this collaboration, tremendous talent pool has been harnessed in addressing critical research issues.
About the Grant
The WUN Research Development Fund (RDF) provides grants of up to £10,0001 , for one year to foster research collaborations among academic staff (faculty) at WUN member universities. Grants from the RDF are intended to help stimulate larger collaborative projects that will strengthen WUN and have impact, for example through giving rise to influential publications or making the collaborating partners competitive for major grants.
The RDF supports research projects directed at problems that lie within the network’s principal research theme of sustainable development, and on which a diverse team of collaborating partners confers distinct advantage. These will often be problems where comparative analysis is important.
In line with the WUN Strategic Plan 2023-2026, we encourage proposals that address problems in one or more of the following areas within the context of sustainable development:
- Social justice and human rights; inequality
- Sustainable world: cities and urbanization; energy transitions; water, and food security
- Mental health; child and maternal health; ageing
- Responsible and ethical applications of Artificial Intelligence.
Who can Apply?
Only faculty members of member universities of the World Universities Network (WUN) can access the RDF. The rule states that project teams must involve a minimum of three WUN member institutions from two different regions. A project cannot be funded unless the collaboration includes core WUN institutions, external partners including non-WUN universities are acceptable though.
In particular, there is support for projects led by novice researchers. In past instances, these awards were accompanied by corresponding support from applicants’ respective institutions. Matching financial contributions are appreciated but not obligatory; this will not be considered during selection analysis.
