About Organisation

The Global Innovation Lab for Climate Finance is a leading international initiative that identifies, develops, and launches innovative financial instruments designed to drive billions in private investment toward climate action and sustainable development. It is funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the governments of Canada, Germany, and the United Kingdom. The Secretariat and analytical support are provided by Climate Policy Initiative (CPI). Since its inception, the Lab has supported cutting-edge financial solutions that address pressing climate challenges across energy, agriculture, adaptation, and mitigation. The initiative leverages global expertise, rigorous evaluation, and a collaborative platform to ensure that selected ideas receive the technical, financial, and strategic support needed to scale impact. Its focus on emerging markets ensures that regions most vulnerable to climate change benefit from innovative financing models that catalyze private sector participation, fill investment gaps, and contribute to achieving climate and development goals.

About the Grant

The Global Innovation Lab for Climate Finance 2026 Call for Ideas seeks to accelerate eight innovative solutions that can mobilize private climate finance in emerging markets. This year’s cycle emphasizes regional programs with targeted themes, including mitigation, adaptation, and sustainable agriculture. Selected applicants benefit from a comprehensive acceleration package comprising expert mentorship, technical analysis, funder mapping, and networking opportunities with policymakers and investors. Additionally, participants gain access to support for pilot implementation to translate concepts into actionable solutions. Beyond acceleration, select high-potential projects may qualify for financial assistance through the Lab’s Pre-Seed Capital Facility, which provides conditional grants of up to USD 250,000 to fast-track deployment. The program is uniquely positioned to connect ideas with global stakeholders, enabling practical, scalable climate finance innovations. By fostering cross-regional collaboration and sector-specific expertise, the Lab ensures its grantees are well-equipped to meet urgent climate and development challenges while unlocking new flows of private capital.

Who can Apply?

The Call for Ideas is open to individuals, organizations, and consortia with innovative finance instruments that target climate-related challenges in emerging markets. Eligible applicants must propose market-driven financial solutions that can attract private capital and demonstrate clear applicability to the Lab’s regional focus areas. For 2026, priority geographies include Africa (mitigation, sustainable agriculture, and food systems), Asia-Pacific (mitigation), Brazil (adaptation/mitigation), India (adaptation/mitigation), Latin America and the Caribbean (adaptation and mitigation), and the Philippines (adaptation). Proposals must align with one of these regional themes and present strong potential for scalability, replication, and impact. Applicants should demonstrate capacity to develop and implement their proposed instrument, with a clear strategy for private sector engagement. Prior experience in climate finance, sustainable investment, or relevant technical sectors is an advantage but not mandatory, as the Lab also seeks promising early-stage ideas with strong potential.
