About Organisation
Global Action for Trans Equality (GATE) is an international advocacy organization committed to promoting justice and equality for trans and gender diverse communities worldwide. Through policy influence, community empowerment, and global engagement, GATE works to dismantle systemic barriers and uplift voices from marginalized gender identities. The organization envisions a world where trans and gender diverse individuals live in dignity, free from discrimination and violence, with full access to health care, legal protections, and overall well-being.
With a firm belief in inclusive and participatory development, GATE provides tailored support to grassroots movements and facilitates access to international human rights mechanisms. The organization actively contributes to shaping global conversations around gender, identity, and human rights, ensuring that the specific needs and perspectives of trans communities are represented and addressed. GATE builds lasting networks and coalitions, develops strategic resources, and invests in the leadership and sustainability of trans-led organizations. Through research, advocacy, and targeted grants, GATE empowers local actors to advance the rights and resilience of trans and gender diverse populations, especially in the face of growing anti-gender movements and systemic inequalities.
About the Grant
GATE offers exclusive membership-based grants aimed at strengthening the capacity and resilience of trans and gender diverse-led organizations. These grants are part of GATE’s broader strategy to address the pressing needs of these communities and support movement-building initiatives across different regions. The grants respond to evolving challenges, including anti-gender opposition, and provide targeted support based on the findings of ongoing research and community feedback.
Two current funding opportunities are available. The first, Strengthening Responses to Anti-Rights Movements, provides up to USD $20,000 to enhance organizational ability to respond to and mitigate the impact of anti-gender narratives. It prioritizes the use of GATE-developed toolkits in institutional development, advocacy, safety, and documentation. The second, Support for Civil Society-Led Reporting to UN Human Rights Mechanisms, offers up to USD $4,500 to support the creation and submission of human rights reports to global mechanisms such as UPR, SDGs, and Treaty Bodies. Both grants aim to uplift and equip organizations to advocate effectively and engage with global platforms.
