About Organisation
What Works II is expanding its portfolio with a second funding window, inviting applications for Innovation Grants aimed at developing innovative strategies and collaborations for preventing violence against women and girls (VAWG). This initiative focuses on under-researched areas of VAWG, such as conflict-related sexual violence and technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV). By promoting partnerships between various organizations, including women’s rights organizations and tech entities, What Works II seeks to create impactful projects that test new approaches to address violence in diverse and vulnerable populations, including refugees and marginalized groups. Their commitment includes ensuring the integration of VAWG prevention within climate change initiatives, recognizing the intersectionality of these pressing issues.
About the Grant
The Innovation Grants from What Works II will support organizations in the Global South that aim to implement and evaluate innovative interventions for preventing VAWG. Grants of up to GBP 500,000 will be awarded for projects that demonstrate a measurable reduction in VAWG in humanitarian or developmental contexts. Emphasis will be placed on projects that explore unique collaborations, test unimplemented strategies, and adapt existing methodologies for new demographics or geographies. The initiative particularly encourages applications from women-led organizations with a proven track record in VAWG prevention, focusing on fragile and conflict-affected settings and the effects of climate change on women’s safety.
Who can Apply?
Eligible applicants include national or local women-led women’s rights organizations (WROs) from the Global South, which can form consortia with other entities, such as NGOs or technology firms. To qualify, organizations must have a clear mandate focused on the rights of women and girls, with a majority of women in leadership and decision-making roles. Applicants should demonstrate expertise in VAWG prevention and express willingness to collaborate on implementation and research evaluation. The targeted regions for applications include the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), Asia, and Sub-Saharan Africa.
How to Apply?
Interested applicants should submit their proposals outlining innovative strategies for VAWG prevention, detailing partnerships, methodologies, and expected outcomes.
