Call for Grant Applications – The Fresh Voices Fellowship 2025
About Organisation
Epiphany is a semiannual literary journal, both in print and online, and operates as an independent nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to supporting writers at every stage of their careers. We take every submission seriously during our open reading periods, fostering a welcoming environment for literary voices. Our initiatives, including the Breakout contest and the Fresh Voices Fellowship, particularly honor student writers and writers of color. For two decades, we have consistently published work that challenges conventions while showcasing literary excellence. Our commitment to diverse narratives is reflected in the essays, fiction, and poetry we publish online throughout the year, as we strive to uplift underrepresented voices in the literary community.
About the Grant
The Fresh Voices Fellowship is designed to support one emerging writer of color—Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian, or other—who lacks an MFA in creative writing or an advanced English degree (MA or PhD) and is not currently enrolled in any degree program. The fellowship includes a $2,000 stipend, publication in a print issue of Epiphany, and a year-long subscription to the journal. Additionally, the selected writer will engage actively in the editorial and publication processes of a nonprofit literary magazine, forging meaningful connections with our editorial team. The fellowship culminates in a Q&A feature on Epiphany’s website, providing visibility for the writer’s work and journey. We encourage writers who operate outside traditional literary and academic frameworks to apply, promoting inclusivity and creativity in literary arts.
Who can Apply?
The Fresh Voices Fellowship is open to emerging writers of color, specifically those who identify as Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian, or other marginalized identities. Applicants must not hold an MFA in creative writing or an advanced English degree (MA, PhD) and should not be currently enrolled in any degree-granting program. Additionally, eligible applicants must not have published a book or have a contract for publication. The fellowship aims to uplift writers who have traditionally been overlooked in literary spaces and those who may not have had access to formal literary education or resources. We especially welcome writers who challenge conventional literary norms and seek to bring fresh perspectives to the field. This fellowship is an opportunity for talented writers to gain recognition and support for their unique voices and stories.
