About Organisation
The Educational Opportunity Foundation supports projects that maximise educational opportunities for children and young people under the age of 25. Its international funding programme focuses on marginalised and deprived communities worldwide, supporting initiatives that improve access to education, educational quality and the long-term sustainability of education projects. The foundation provides grants to eligible UK-registered charities working directly on project activities and does not generally support organisations whose primary purpose is fundraising. Its funding approach supports new or pilot projects and can cover activities such as teacher development, inclusive education, educational resources, vocational opportunities and community-led approaches that strengthen education systems.
About the Grant
The Educational Opportunity Foundation International Projects Grant supports new or pilot education projects serving young people up to 25 in marginalised and deprived communities worldwide. The current main fund provides between £30,000 and £60,000 per project, with a maximum of £30,000 per year for multi-year projects. Funding can support projects improving access to education, teaching quality, inclusive practices, vocational opportunities and sustainability. Projects may run for one to three years. The foundation can fund between 25% and 100% of eligible project costs, while projects with some matched funding are preferred. The January 2027 funding round is currently open for applications.
Who can Apply?
Applicants must be UK-registered charities with an annual income between £100,000 and £1.5 million for their most recently completed financial year. Organisations must have at least three years of continuous accounts submitted to the relevant UK Charity Commission and must be financially sound. Applicants should be directly involved in delivering the proposed project rather than operating primarily as fundraising organisations. International projects must benefit young people up to the age of 25 in marginalised or deprived communities. The foundation supports new or pilot projects and does not generally fund scholarships, school fees, summer camps, international travel, conferences, expeditions or projects where running costs are the main expense.
How to Apply?
Applicants begin with a short Stage 1 application through the Educational Opportunity Foundation. Organisations shortlisted after Stage 1 are invited to submit a more detailed Stage 2 proposal. The foundation recommends reviewing the international eligibility criteria before applying and ensuring the proposed project directly addresses educational access, quality or sustainability. Applicants should prepare evidence of organisational eligibility, project need, activities, budget and expected outcomes before submitting the Stage 1 application.
