About Organisation
The Commonwealth Foundation is an international organisation that works to strengthen civil society participation in public policy and development across Commonwealth countries. It supports organisations and collective initiatives that encourage inclusive governance, civic engagement and constructive dialogue between citizens and decision-makers. Through its grant programmes, the Foundation helps civil society organisations contribute to sustainable development and social change. Its funding supports projects that address community priorities, strengthen participation and improve the relationship between citizens and public institutions.
About the Grant
The Commonwealth Foundation Grants 2026–2027 programme supports civil society projects that contribute to participatory governance and development. The current call includes Individual Organisation Grants and Collective Action Grants. Individual Organisation Grants offer £15,000–£30,000 per year for up to two years. The new collective funding stream supports networks, coalitions, alliances, platforms and creative collectives working together on shared objectives. Projects should demonstrate a clear development problem, meaningful participation by intended beneficiaries and a credible plan for achieving change.
Who can Apply?
Eligible applicants must satisfy the Foundation’s country, organisational and programme criteria. The individual stream is intended for eligible not-for-profit civil society organisations, including creative organisations. The collective stream is designed for qualifying networks, alliances, coalitions, platforms and creative collectives. Applicants must demonstrate relevant experience, a clear project rationale and an approach that incorporates gender and intersectionality. Organisations should review the official eligibility guidance and required documentation before applying.
How to Apply?
Applicants must register on the official Commonwealth Foundation Grants Online Application System, read the application guidance and complete the relevant online form. Required documents include a project logic model, registration evidence and information about board members or the organisation’s governance structure.
