About the Grant
The European Commission is inviting proposals for its Pathfinder Challenge on Generative-AI (GenAI) agents to revolutionize cancer diagnosis and treatment. This grant focuses on developing interactive GenAI-based autonomous agents that enhance clinical decision-making and improve patient care by integrating multidimensional and multimodal health data. Proposals must target one of eight specified cancers, including breast, lung, brain, or colorectal cancer, and address both technological advancements and clinical applications. The technological area emphasizes the development of innovative GenAI tools for data integration, medical data augmentation, and dynamic medical knowledge representation. The clinical area focuses on predictive diagnosis and personalized treatment planning. This initiative aims to create holistic AI-powered systems that overcome the challenges of data fragmentation, limited interpretability of AI models, and inefficiencies in healthcare delivery. Projects are expected to advance the use of synthetic medical data, develop advanced algorithms, and enable early detection and personalized therapy to improve patient outcomes. The total budget for 2025 is €120 million, with individual contributions ranging between €500,000 and €4 million. By funding early-stage, high-risk, and groundbreaking research, the EC aims to accelerate innovation in cancer care through advanced AI technologies.
