About the Grant

The Strengthening Our Culture Funding Pool Australia supports culturally grounded projects, training and partnerships that improve the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal people across South Australia. The program has a total funding pool of $480,000 GST exclusive and is divided across four funding streams. Supported initiatives can strengthen cultural connection, healthy lifestyles, community capability, Aboriginal leadership and self-determination. Priority areas include tobacco and vaping prevention, obesity and chronic disease prevention, mental wellbeing, social and emotional wellbeing, suicide prevention, alcohol and other drugs prevention, men’s cancer screening and Well Women’s health. The funding provides an important opportunity for Aboriginal community grants and Indigenous health initiatives.

Who can Apply?

The Strengthening Our Culture Funding Pool is primarily open to South Australian Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs) and Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs) with an active ABN. Eligible organisations should be community controlled, not-for-profit and governed by a majority Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander board. Applicants must operate in South Australia and provide services, programs or support to Aboriginal people. Joint applications may be submitted where an eligible Aboriginal organisation acts as the lead applicant. In limited rural or remote circumstances, other service providers may be considered where genuine partnerships and community support are demonstrated.

How to Apply?

Eligible organisations should review the funding requirements, select the appropriate funding stream and develop a culturally grounded project that addresses identified preventive health priorities. Applicants should explain the community need, proposed activities, expected outcomes, delivery approach, budget and evaluation methods. Applications should also demonstrate Aboriginal leadership, cultural safety, community participation and relevant partnerships. Applicants must submit the required information through the designated application process and ensure that their organisation meets all eligibility requirements before submission.
