About Organisation
The Kaikōura District Council is the local authority responsible for supporting the social, economic, cultural and environmental wellbeing of the Kaikōura community in New Zealand. Through its community grants programmes, the Council provides funding opportunities for local organisations, voluntary groups and schools delivering projects that benefit residents. The Council’s funding priorities are linked to its annual objectives and Long Term Plans, with emphasis on initiatives that strengthen community participation, education, culture, creativity and local wellbeing. The Kaikōura Community Initiatives Fund is one of the Council’s dedicated funding programmes supporting community events, activities and public education projects across the district.
About the Grant
The Kaikōura Community Initiatives Fund New Zealand supports community projects and activities that contribute to the social, economic, cultural and environmental wellbeing of Kaikōura. The fund has NZ$15,000 available annually, with NZ$5,000 reserved each year for rangatahi and youth projects. Funding can support public education, community events, cultural and creative opportunities and other short-term initiatives that provide meaningful local benefits. Eligible costs may include personnel expenses for one-off projects, administration and operational costs, entry fees and venue hire. Projects should respond to a demonstrated local need and provide opportunities that the Kaikōura community would not otherwise have access to.
Who can Apply?
The fund is open to non-profit and voluntary organisations, registered community groups and schools. Community groups must be registered as a charitable trust or incorporated society. Applicants should propose projects that benefit the Kaikōura community and contribute to relevant Council objectives or Long Term Plans. Applicants must also demonstrate that they have researched the local need for their proposed activity, project or event. This includes consulting with the local hapori (community) and explaining who was consulted and what feedback was received. Projects may focus on educational, entertainment, cultural or creative opportunities. Applicants should also provide appropriate supporting information, including evidence that validates the proposed project budget.
How to Apply?
Applicants should review the funding criteria and confirm that their organisation and proposed project meet the requirements. Prepare a clear description of the project, its local need, intended beneficiaries, activities, expected community benefits and alignment with Council objectives. Applicants should demonstrate consultation with the local hapori and include relevant supporting information. Quotes or price lists should be provided where appropriate to support the proposed budget. Complete the official application form and submit it before the relevant funding-round deadline.
