About the Grant
The UNIDIR Women in AI Fellowship 2026 is a capacity-building initiative aimed at strengthening women’s participation in global AI governance and security discussions. The programme equips women diplomats with practical knowledge of artificial intelligence, including its technical foundations, security applications, legal implications, and ethical considerations. The fellowship includes a week-long, in-person training in Geneva structured around education, exploration, and networking. Participants engage with experts, policymakers, and technical stakeholders to better understand AI’s role in international peace and security. The programme also provides opportunities to build professional networks and join UNIDIR’s alumni and expert communities focused on military AI governance.
Who can Apply?
The fellowship is open to women diplomats and government representatives from United Nations Member States. Applicants must be at a junior to mid-career level and actively engaged in diplomatic or governmental roles. A strong command of written and spoken English is required, as the programme is conducted in English. Candidates should demonstrate a clear interest in issues related to international security, emerging technologies, artificial intelligence governance, or gender inclusion in policymaking. The programme seeks individuals committed to strengthening multilateral engagement and contributing to informed discussions on AI in the context of peace, security, and responsible global governance.

Applicants must submit their documents via email with the specified subject line. Required materials include a copy of the passport, a curriculum vitae of no more than two pages, two recommendation letters (including one from a national government or diplomatic representation), and a one-page letter of interest outlining relevant experience and intended use of fellowship knowledge. The applicant’s email address must be included in the CC field.

All required documents must be submitted by Tuesday, 24 February 2026, before midnight (CET). Late or incomplete applications will not be considered for the 2026 fellowship cycle.
