About Organisation

The UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration is a global initiative led by the United Nations to prevent, halt, and reverse ecosystem degradation worldwide. Running from 2021 to 2030, it aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals and climate action timelines. The initiative brings together governments, civil society, youth groups, and communities to restore forests, farmlands, freshwater systems, oceans, and urban ecosystems. Youth engagement is a core pillar, ensuring intergenerational equity and long-term sustainability. Through partnerships with UNEP, FAO, and youth networks, the UN Decade empowers young leaders to drive restoration efforts that strengthen livelihoods, biodiversity, and climate resilience.

About the Grant

The UN Decade Youth Task Force Micro-Grant 2026 supports youth-led ecosystem restoration initiatives through small, targeted funding. Designed in partnership with UNEP and FAO, the micro-grant programme aims to empower young people to lead practical, community-based restoration projects. It funds actions across diverse ecosystems including forests, farmlands, freshwater bodies, grasslands, oceans, peatlands, and urban areas. Projects must follow SMART objectives and demonstrate ecological impact, youth engagement, and sustainability beyond the funding period. A total of ten micro-grants will be awarded, with priority given to projects in the Global South.

Who can Apply?

Applications are open to registered youth-led organisations worldwide. Projects must be led by individuals under 35 years of age and implemented between February and July 2026. Eligible initiatives should focus on restoring or conserving at least one ecosystem category under the UN Decade framework. Organisations must provide proof of legal registration and submit a clear implementation plan, budget, and sustainability strategy. Eighty percent of grants are reserved for the Global South, while twenty percent support initiatives in the Global North. Projects must demonstrate measurable ecological outcomes and meaningful youth and community participation.
