About Organisation

The Waterloo Foundation (TWF), established in 2007 and based in Cardiff, Wales, is an independent grant-making foundation supporting organizations globally and within the UK. Its mission focuses on addressing disparities in wealth and opportunity, as well as promoting the sustainable use of the planet’s natural resources. The Foundation provides around £15 million annually in grants under four key areas: World Development, The Environment, Child Development, and Wales. Over the past 18 years, TWF has supported more than 4,200 projects, contributing over £160 million toward impactful, charitable causes worldwide.

About the Grant

The Waterloo Foundation’s Marine Programme funds initiatives aimed at protecting and restoring ocean ecosystems and fish stocks. The program focuses on combating overfishing, supporting small-scale sustainable fisheries, and preventing illegal or destructive fishing practices. Priority is given to projects that influence fisheries policy, protect livelihoods in the Global South, or promote sustainable fishing practices in Wales. The programme supports both strategic international projects and local community-driven initiatives. It also encourages efforts to safeguard mangroves and seagrasses, recognizing their role in sustaining fisheries and marine biodiversity.

Who can Apply?

Eligible applicants include organizations with a proven track record in marine conservation or sustainable fisheries management. Strategic project applicants should demonstrate prior policy influence or measurable conservation outcomes, while local project applicants should show community engagement and sustainable livelihood creation. Proposals must outline clear, measurable objectives, methods for tracking progress, and strategies ensuring long-term sustainability. Both international and local organizations are eligible, provided their initiatives address marine ecosystem preservation, tackle overexploitation, or support fisheries vital to coastal communities.

How to Apply?

Interested applicants should review the Environment – Application Guidelines before submitting proposals. Applications must be sent via email to applications@waterloofoundation.org.uk, following the Foundation’s specified guidelines and format.
