About Organisation
The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) is a global nonprofit dedicated to ensuring oceans remain healthy and seafood resources are sustainable for future generations. Through its ecolabel and fishery certification program, MSC rewards sustainable fishing practices, influences consumer behavior, and collaborates with partners to transform the global seafood market. Its mission is to protect marine biodiversity, encourage responsible fisheries, and preserve ocean ecosystems for long-term ecological balance and food security.
About the Grant
The Ocean Stewardship Fund (OSF) by MSC supports fisheries working toward sustainability and MSC certification. Funded by 5% of MSC’s annual royalties and additional donations, OSF backs projects that enhance traceability, management practices, and community involvement. The fund aims to accelerate fisheries’ progress toward MSC standards through targeted financial support for key improvements and innovations that promote responsible, science-based ocean stewardship and ecosystem conservation.
Who can Apply?
The grant is open to fisheries participating in the MSC Improvement Program that have completed independent verification and demonstrated adequate progress. Eligible applicants must support at least one action from their Improvement Action Plan (IAP) and designate an Improvement Program Manager as the lead applicant. Fisheries targeting the same stock must apply jointly, and prior MSC Transition Assistance Fund grantees must have completed their projects. Only fisheries not yet in Full Assessment are eligible.
How to Apply?
Applications open on 22 September 2025 and close on 1 December 2025 (23:59 UTC).
