About the Grant

The MIT Water, Food & Agriculture Innovation Prize supports early-stage, student-led startups developing sustainable solutions in water, food, and agriculture. Since 2015, the prize has funded innovative ventures translating research into real-world impact. Selected teams receive mentorship, industry exposure, and the opportunity to pitch to expert judges, with innovation grants of up to USD 50,000 awarded to winning teams.

Who can Apply?

Applicants must be part of an early-stage startup team with at least one U.S.-based student leader. Teams should have raised less than USD 100,000 in prior funding. The prize welcomes diverse innovation approaches, including technology, policy, data, and design-driven solutions addressing water, food, and agricultural challenges.

How to Apply?

Eligible teams must submit an application before the deadline. Shortlisted participants will be invited to prepare a business plan and final pitch. At least one student team member must be available to present at the Final Pitch Night, where winners are selected.
